RM51,000 losses for Zunar

Police raids on political cartoonist Zunar in the month has cost him RM51,000 in merchandise confiscated, he said while seeking public donations to recoup losses and pay for legal fees.

Zunar was among four arrested on Saturday at a fundraising event in Kuala Lumpur meant to raise funds for his legal fees. He was released the same night.

Top cartoonist Ujang said the multiple arrests faced by Zunar implies cartoonists in Malaysia are more dangerous than robbers.

BN parties can't object to Act 355 amendments

Umno supreme council member Ahmad Maslan said no BN component party can oppose amendments to the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (Act 355) once the government takes over the the bill that was first tabled as a private member's bill by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

Ahmad said this is as the MPs from component parties, including from MIC, MCA and Gerakan, who have all opposed the bill, are governmenr backbenchers and must vote according to the BN whip.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom said by taking over the bill, the government sidesteps the need to seek consensus on syariah law matters in every state.

Responding to the rebuke from Johor's Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Ibrahim, Umno information chief Annuar Musa agreed with Tunku Ismail that he has had many failures but that failure brings with them many lessons.
