Dr M, Kit Siang told to mind grandkids; Hadi slammed for Iran visit

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Dr M, Kit Siang told to mind grandkids

Veteran politicians Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Lim Kit Siang should be caring for their grandchildren in their twilight years, instead of shooting their mouths off, said Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz.

Mahathir explained why he is not doing the things expected of a nonagenarian: "It is not always my choice... I am responding to the appeals by numerous groups of Malaysian people for me to do 'something'," he responded in a blog posting.

Meanwhile Lim bombarded Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak with a barrage of questions after the minister asked where is the opposition's shadow cabinet and alternate prime minister candidate to jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Hadi slammed for Iran visit

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang came under fire from Islamic scholars for attending an international conference in Teheran last Saturday that was officiated by Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khomeinei. They said this is inappropriate at a time when Iran is purportedly involved in the bloodbath at Syria's Aleppo.

However, in a statement later, Hadi defended the 'misunderstood' Iran. "As far as I know, Iran did not say that it wants to export its Shiite Islamic Revolution. Iran only wants to invite neighbouring Arab states to unite against Israel and free themselves from foreign powers," he said.
