Felda defends Eagle High buy; Jamal's raids illegal; MRT more than RM40b

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Felda defends Eagle High buy

Felda said its move to acquire 37 percent of Eagle High Plantations (EHP) in Indonesia will open doors to the sizeable Indonesian domestic market and allow synergies between Felda Global Venture (FGV) and EHP.

However, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli said Felda is injecting significant amount of capital without gaining control of EHP's land bank.

Rafizi also lodged a police report against Felda management, alleging mismanagement which led to poor performance in 2013 and 2014, while Persatuan Anak Felda (Anak) lodges a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the EHP acquisition.

Jamal raids illegal

Selangor police chief Abdul Samah Mat said Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos broke the law when he conducted vigilante raids on alleged vice dens in the state.

Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali is investigated for raising questions over the firearms firm owned by inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar's daughter.

MRT more than RM40b

MRT contractor MRT Gamuda KVMRT Sdn Bhd said the total cost for all three MRT lines is likely more than the RM40 billion earlier estimated, which was based on 2009 prices.

This is because the estimation was on the basis that the three lines were built concurrently, and staggering construction as done now has raised cost.

MRT Gamuda also refuted Rafizi's claim it was paid RM7 billion in fees for MRT 1. It was instead paid RM750 million.
