Some 1.2 million people rode the first phase of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line between Sungai Buloh and Semantan since it began operations on Dec 16 until yesterday.

Muhammad Isom Azis, chief operating officer of the Sungai Buloh–Kajang Line, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, said the MRT received between 27,000 and 30,000 commuters on average each day during the promotional one-month free ride.

“The figure is considered encouraging since the line has yet to be fully integrated,” he said during a walkabout with the media at the MRT Sungai Buloh station today.
