MACC swoops down on Felda

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested four Felda officials, including a 'Datuk', over a failed sturgeon farm project in Pahang.

In a separate development, a Felda subsidiary was allegedly used to pay for the living expenses of its former deputy director-general's daughter.

Auditor-general Ambrin Buang said up to 30 percent in government project values were lost to graft.

Drama in the opposition

DAP acting chairperson Tan Kok Wai defended the party's parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang's olive branch to PAS, stating that it was intended to save Malaysia.

Lim also defended his statement, stating that he was even willing to work with BN if it meant saving the country.

Meanwhile, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said the Pakatan Harapan will not dance to anybody's tune, in response to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's demands that any party wanting to work with it must be on the Islamic party's terms.

Parti Amanah Negara also criticised PAS for proposing that it merges with DAP.

Meanwhile, analysts said the proposal for 91-year-old Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad to contest in Putrajaya showed the opposition was facing a leadership vacuum.

Kelantan Forestry Department launches crackdown

Sixteen Orang Asli and two journalists were arrested in an operation by the Kelantan Forestry Department to dismantle anti-logging blockades in Gua Musang.

The crackdown sparked condemnations from both sides of the political divide as well as human rights groups.

Perkasa said it will field independent candidates against the parliamentary constituencies of MCA president Liow Tiong Lai and Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong.

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai expressed concern that Malaysia may slide into extremism if Chinese voters do not swing back to BN in the 14th general election.

Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement members are planning to go ahead with the trade deal without the US, after the latter withdrew from the deal.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said his proposal to ban the 'kapcai' from the city centre of Kuala Lumpur was only a possibility and was not fixed.

The Federal Court will decide if the government can appeal against the decision that found the Home Ministry's ban on the Edge Financial Daily to be illegal.
