Speculations over minister quitting over 1MDB

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, in alluding that a senior minister would quit over the 1MDB scandal, sparked a flurry of speculations.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said Azmin was lying if he did not disclose the name of the said minister.

Azmin responded within the hour, claiming that he was informed of the planned exit by the minister himself and said an announcement would be made soon.


Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad met jailed PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim again at the Kuala Lumpur High Court in conjunction with the latter's second anniversary in prison.

International human rights groups repeated urgings for Anwar's release after two years of incarceration.

Mystery virus

Authorities are trying to identifying a mystery virus that caused the death of a 59-year-old man.

The Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) said police breached standard operating procedure in relation to the custodial death of S Balamurugan at the North Klang district police headquarters.


North Klang police district chief Mohd Yusoff Mamat said more than 10 police officers were under probe for the death but none had been suspended pending investigation.

The Kluang Municipal Council allegedly cited the name of Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim in the removal of opposition banners at a planned ceramah featuring Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin.
