Factory worker claims trial to charges of supporting IS

A factory worker pleaded not guilty to seven charges of supporting militant activities in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today, including receiving instructions from the Islamic State (IS) militant group last year.

Mohammad Firdaus Abdullah, 27, made the plea after the charges against him were read out before Judge Azman Abdullah.

On the first count, the accused allegedly received instructions via Telegram messaging application under the name of 'Jengking Malaya' from a IS militant member, Fudhail Muhammad Omar, 25, to carry out a terrorist attack.

The offence was allegedly committed at Jalan Padu, Tampoi Industrial Estate, Larkin, Johor Baru, between 3.38am to 3.50am on March 25, 2016.

The charge under Section 130FA (b) of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 130FA of same Code, provides for a maximum jail term of 30 years or a fine, if convicted.

Mohammad Firdaus was also accused of supporting IS militant group by using Telegram application titled 'Gagak Hitam' under the name of 'Jengking Malaya' at the same place between March 25, 2016 to June 17, 2016.

On the third count he was accused of lending support to terrorism attacks by suggesting the use of drones over Bukit Aman, Putrajaya, Free Mason Temple in Bukit Jalil via Telegram application under the name of Jengking Malaya at the same address between 3.08am to 3.41am on June 27, 2016.

He was also charged with allegedly showing support for the bomb attack on Movida Night Club, Puchong through the same Telegram at the same place between 3.41am to 9.03am on June 27, 2016.

On the fifth count he was accused of having in his possession 89 videos, nine pieces of IS related images and 34 al-Qaeda related videos in an external hard disk and 64 IS-related images and two al-Qaeda photographs in his mobile phone at the same place at 6.55pm on Aug 4, 2016.

On the sixth and seventh counts, he was accused of having in his possession, a book titled 'Tarbiyah Jihadiyah Volume 12-16, Asy-Syaikh Dr Abdullah Azzam' an item that has to do with IS and al-Qaeda acts as well as having eight IS-related images in his mobile phone.

Both offences were allegedly committed at Block A, Jalan Suria Muafakat Utama, Taman Suria Muafakat Utama, Larkin, Johor Baru, between 7.15pm to 8.25pm on Aug 4, 2016.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Munirah Shamsudin while the accused was represented by counsel Muhammad Imran Mohamad Farok.

Azman Abdullah fixed March 14 for remention.
