Anak Felda wants MPs to table emergency motion on Felda woes

Persatuan Anak Peneroka Felda Kebangsaan (Anak Felda) wants MPs to file an emergency motion on ongoing issues with the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda).

This comes amid allegations that Felda is facing financial difficulties due to mismanagement.

"Anak Felda believes that since Felda was established by Parliament, then this should be the best avenue to discuss the dire situation it is in now.

"We understand MPs have submitted written questions on Felda, but this is not enough due to the present scenario," Anak Felda president Mazlan Aliman said in a statement yesterday.

Mazlan said the emergency motion should debate the following:

  • The establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the alleged losses of billions of ringgit, especially during previous chairperson Mohd Isa Abdul Samad's era;

  • The reason for Felda's losses, as stated in its annual report in 2013 and 2014; and

  • To review the position of Felda Global Ventures (FGV) in Bursa Malaysia, which is allegedly affecting Felda's stability.

Mazlan said these matters were of grave importance because it involved 1.5 million Felda settlers.

In mid-January, current Felda chairperson Shahrir Samad said there have been "leakages" in its investment arm Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC).

"Felda has lots of leakages, the PAC report noted leakages in its projects implemented under the FIC, which incurred losses from it," Shahrir said.

On March 1, two former top officers with Felda were charged with criminal breach of trust involving RM47.6 million in 2014.
