Dr M sees fear in debate cancellation

Police claimed troublemakers were planning to disrupt the debate between former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz in justifying its decision to block the event.

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng rubbished the explanation, stating that if a blanket ban is imposed on events over the possibility of public order issues, then football matches would not be able to go ahead either.

Mahathir claimed the debate cancellation was driven by fear of the truth being exposed, rather than public order concerns.

Former minister Zainuddin Maidin said the cancellation was a political victory for Mahathir.
