KDN letter for Nanyang; Hadi's foul words for DAP; worship house furore

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Ministry letter for Nanyang

The Home Ministry issued a show-cause letter to Nanyang Siang Pau for publishing a cartoon depicting PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia as monkeys.

PAS said it would take legal action against Nanyang over the cartoon despite the daily's apology and retraction. It also submitted a protest memorandum to the daily.

However, political cartoonist Zunar said PAS, in demanding Nanyang's closure, was over-reacting.

Hadi's foul words for DAP

In a scathing speech at his home on Monday, PAS president Hadi slammed critics including DAP, which he dismissed as "anak butir taik PAP" (the child of People's Action Party's excrement).

A group of Muslim DAP Youth members responded by urging Hadi to repent, citing a Quranic verse urging all to call to the way God with wisdom and good words.

In a related matter Hadi said PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli should seek forgiveness from Allah as he should know his claim that an ex-PAS leader received funds from 1MDB, and PAS inadvertently benefited as a result, was a "300 percent lie".

MCA vs DAP on house of worship guidelines

Condemning the Selangor government, MCA said it is giving the Pakatan Rakyat government two weeks to resolve the controversy involving guidelines for the construction of places of worship for non-Muslims in Selangor.

However, DAP's Subang Jaya assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh questioned MCA's silence on similar guidelines in BN states including Pahang, Terengganu and Perlis, which was adopted from the Federal Department of Town and Country Planning Peninsular Malaysia draft in 2010.
