1MDB double pay poser; Adam Rosly brickbats not for Azmin

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

1MDB double pay poser

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua said the settlement between 1MDB and International Petroleum Investment Corporation (IPIC) implies 1MDB will have to make a second payment of US$3.5 billion, after already paying that sum to Aabar BVI in 2012.

However, this is disputed by Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi, who said not only is this not true, 1MDB will also not assume the principal payment for the US$3.5 billion bonds - which is at odds with what IPIC stated in its filing with the London Stock Exchange.

Puad also said that the settlement weakens the United States of America's Department of Justice civil suit to seize more than US$1 billion of worth of assets bought with funds allegedly siphoned from 1MDB, claiming that the settlement shows no money was stolen.

Therefore, now is the good time to declassify the auditor-general's report on 1MDB, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

In a related matter, new auditor-general Madinah Mohamed declined to comment when asked about the 1MDB report, while saying that criticism about her Umno ties are "behind me".

PKR veep denies Adam Rosly brickbats meant for Azmin

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli denied that his criticism of Ampang PKR Youth Adam Rosly, who is charged with falsifying information on his unexplained wealth, is a veiled attack against PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

Maintaining that PKR should distance itself from Adam's "personal problems", he said the case differs from the corruption charge against DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, whose case he said is political persecution.

Meanwhile, Rafizi presented findings of a survey by his NGO Invoke, which shows PAS will be sidelined in the next general election, with its vote pools insignificant in three-cornered fights, except in Terengganu and Kelantan.
