S'wak DAP won’t name Pujut candidate till court decides

Sarawak DAP has decided not to announce its candidate for the Pujut by-election, pending the decision by the High Court in Kuching tomorrow morning.

State DAP chairperson Chong Chieng Jen said the party's legal team informed him this morning that the presiding judge, Justice Douglas Primus Sikayun, would deliver the verdict at 9am tomorrow.

"Out of respect for the court process, we will withold announcement of the candidate," Chong told reporters at the DAP office in Miri today.

Former Pujut assemblyperson Dr Ting Tiong Choon filed an originating summons with the High Court Registry in Kuching on June 7, challenging his dismissal by the Sarawak Legislative Assembly.

On May 12, Ting was disqualified as the Pujut representative after a motion in the state assembly was tabled to disqualify him for allegedly acquiring an Australian citizenship in 2012.
