A potential of RM4 billion which could have gone to build libraries and schools and roads and bridges for the rural folk has been squandered. Who will be accountable, asks a reader.
On RM4.6b bailout: Shahrir calls for probe
Meng: Is this bailout the first of many in PM Abdullah's portfolio? Dr Mahathir had his fair share of bailouts but no one was ever prosecuted for plunder or misappropriation of funds. Somehow, no matter how transparent the PM says he wants to be, the rakyat is as usual very skeptical that any prosecution will be made. The rakyat has cause to be as BN's history has shown that very little comes out of an official investigation especially when its on one of 'their own'.
There were clear signs of malpractice by an Umno division leader in Klang but there wasn't any prosecution. If you are a student in Taiwan however, you would be rapped and perhaps prosecuted.
Now, they had a potential of RM4 billion which could have gone to build libraries and schools and roads and bridges for the rural folk; however it was squandered and plundered and abused. A project under the BN's purview. Enough is enough. While the rakyat has to pay higher petrol prices, higher food bills and higher everything else except income, the government is throwing away precious money because of mismanagement. Are we sick yet?
Roundy: With reasonable and founded suspicion, the relevant authorities should now take immediate actions to investigate. I'm guessing the document trail will disappear very quickly given time and the amount of publicity the project is now receiving.
I hope this is not a situation where the government is intentionally pre-empting an investigation and giving time for the 'wrong-doers' ample chance to cleanse the records.
Lots of noise with lack of action is a sure sign of bad faith on part of the authorities.
On MCA minta GLC beri kontrak kepada usahawan Cina
On Abu Talib: Regrets I've none
Umar Mukhtar: Abu Talib was absolutely right with his comments on the rot in the judiciary. So was Mahathir when he commented on the rot in the government. Of course, it is common knowledge that these two were the most responsible in destroying the institutions of judiciary and government in this country as we knew it. But that does not negate the truth about what is really going on now.
So let us continue to listen to what they have got to say. They were insiders who knew how to crack the safe, and now trying to pretty themselves by showing up a 'nastier' crook.
They may have absolutely no personal credibility when talking about justice and governance, but their words serve as a reminder to us that they were very aware about what is morally right or wrong when they did what they did when they were in power.
Their musings and ranting are so revealing of a guilty mind. They are not intended as rhetoric of redemption, for they know we will not have them back in the government come hell or high water.
Let them talk. They are proving that we were right about them all along. And now we know we are right about their successors.
MS: Congratulations to Abu Talib who truly deserves to feel he did his job well as evidenced by the lifestyle he has today. Surely that must be a mark of singular success. His actions did not diminish him, only that the judiciary which he compromised remains defanged till today, using as he proudly says, judges who agreed with him.
The remaining judges, thereafter, have continued to agree with Mahathir and we all live happily now, no?
And if any more proof was needed on how much he was and is supported by judges, why, we now have our top judge asking that we dispense with the troublesome English common law. Yessir, Abu Talib, you have done yourself proud and left a legacy to show for it. There is always justice for your types.
On Pak Lah: I don't practice favouritism
Venn-Ti: At practically every general assembly of MCA and Umno, some members of the respective parties would yell their lungs out, no matter how nauseating or discomforting the words might be.
However, there is a disturbingly stark difference. What Umno delegates say would likely turn out to be unwritten laws, faithfully implemented by the government for their ultimate gain. On the other hand, what the unfortunate MCA leaders and would-be leaders request would only meet with deaf ears, waiting for yet another round of inconsequential shouting the following year.
Such indiscriminate discrimination has been around for years. It was in our political system, it still is, and it will still be. Half-a-century of bipartisan politics has resulted in a bipolar force gradually tearing our country apart. Yet our leaders have no qualms about that at all. I feel deeply sorry for the pathetic politicians, if not sad for our nation.
Whither Malaysia goes? Does anybody really care?
Anonymous: Back in the late 70s and early 80s, Malaysia was faced with an influx of refugees called 'the boat people'. But we managed to keep them isolated on an island and therefore none of these people were visible in KL or in other places in Malaysia let alone allowed to build villages in jungle or squatter areas.
But now when we have Filipinos and Indonesians flooding our shores and we can't control the problem. What gives? Does religion play an important factor here. Maybe someone from the government can explain?
