On PM rejects meeting with Anwar

Mikey: As a citizen of this much loved nation, I strongly request that Abdullah meets with Anwar to discuss this catastrophe for the benefit of the rakyat . What is the use of seeking leadership from a ruling party that doesn’t have a majority?

Allegorically speaking, BN is like a husband who gets an indication that his wife is having an extramarital relationship but chooses to ignore it. Pak Lah, ignorance may be bliss for you but we, the rakyat , are fed up with your attitude and lack of fortitude.

What right does Abdullah have to call Anwar a liar, even before he has investigated the evidence? I can’t imagine a bigger liar than you for all the times you’ve duped us into believing that you have everything under control. If this country crumbles into the black muck of regression, it will be on your watch. Do you want that responsibility?

Lucian: The PM should meet Anwar so that we will all get a definitive answer on whether or not Anwar has the numbers to form government. It will put to rest all this talk of a takeover if Anwar can’t produce the list and BN can move forward to focus on running the country and we the rakyat can focus on the tasks at hand.

Anwar will then be forever consigned to the political scrap heap. What has the PM got to lose by meeting Anwar for five minutes instead of this political soap opera being played out in the media indefinitely?

JK: Mr PM, when you took charge of our country, you made a heartfelt plea to the rakyat , saying, "Don’t work for me, work with me".

This promise has always been in our hearts and we now hope that you will keep to your promise to develop and push Malaysia forward. If this can only be done if you leave office, will you please do the honourable thing?

This is the right moment for you to prove that you only have the best of the country at heart. For the sake of Malaysia and its people, please meet Anwar. It is no longer about two politicians and their fight for supremacy. It is about the future well being of the country.

May God give you the strength to do the right thing.

Farid: "If he really has the list of MPs, he should just reveal it, and need not wait to meet me. He does not have the list. He is a liar."

I say call his bluff then, prime minister! If you are so sure that Anwar doesn't have support, meet with him and finish him off. If he truly doesn't have the support he says he has, it will be the end of all this political noise, at least for a while. Imagine how damaging it would be to Anwar's campaign if he was lying.

Personally I would guess that the PM is stalling to try and find some way out of this mess, so I don't blame Anwar for holding back the names of these so-called defectors. He knows first hand just how the people that he is fighting against do what they do to stay in power.

Good luck Anwar. I pray, for the future of Malaysia and her people that the good guys win, as they should.

On Anwar: We've more than 31 defectors

Darshan S Khaira: The significance of September 16 is that Anwar Ibrahim has, for the first time, made the people believe that it is possible for a party other than the BN to form the national government. He has also successfully debunked the idea that only BN is capable of running the country.

Eventually Pakatan Rakyat will form the national government by defection. BN is in denial and is slowly collapsing. Ideas long considered taboo are now being raised and discussed for the first time. This is a good sign of the changing times.

Anwar is a man with a national vision and people are clamouring for him and his policies. Only he can cleanse Malaysian politics of the blatant discrimination and corruption which now pervade the higher levels in all aspects of society.

So, let’s give him a chance. September 16 is a date, a moving target if you will. As long as the promised change takes place, the people are willing to be patient.

IHH: Saudara Anwar, September 16 came and went, and nothing happened. I, for one, am very disappointed to say the least.

When BN said that your agenda was a mere dream, you said that they were wrong. When your coalition first announced the date might be delayed, you insisted that 916 will happen. Only up to a couple of days before 916, you conceded, citing national security and political stability.

And on September 15, you announced that the names will be revealed on the big day, but then you backtracked and said that you will only reveal them to the PM first.

Last week, here in Australia, there was a half-hour primetime special about your 916 agenda. The whole world is watching. Please, Anwar, don't play mind games anymore. Every single day the takeover is delayed, you lose more of your credibility and BN will gain the upperhand.

Xroy: Victory does not come easy, real victory takes a bit longer and there are heartaches, there is pain, there is anguish, there is fear, there is anxiety, but what keeps everything going, is the faith in the people we trust and hope.

Are we in for a change of government?

I believe we are but a smooth transition is a must.

If a government that is known to shred documents and burn files is allowed to do just that in panic, one has to be cautious, so there must be dialogue and understanding before one surrenders and the other accepts victory.

Anwar Ibrahim has the majority he requires, we would not want this desperate government to go about locking up innocent members of parliament under the ISA.

The minister of home affairs has told us that the journalist who was detained under the ISA was detained under the ISA for her own security?

Umno is capable of anything. They can do anything and blame it on others. They have and will continue to do so until they are kicked out of office.

So let us hope and pray for a new government for as long as there is faith, there will be hope.

On Zaid sticks to 'quit' decision, open to joining PKR

Kenny Gan: It is very commendable of Zaid to stick to his decision to resign. There is no point for him to remain in the moral cesspool of the BN government just to give it a veneer of respectability when he can do nothing.

Zaid’s resignation is a damning indiction that this government has no stomach for reforms, least of all the PM who is busy fighting to protect his position.

The government has lost its moral right to rule by using the ISA to maintain its power. But till today, we still hear of armchair idealists ensconced in their ivory towers talking about the immorality of toppling a totally unprincipled government by defections.

When a man has to rush his critically ill wife to the hospital, would you question whether he should do it because his driving license has expired?

MILLIONTH CITIZEN: It's commendable, magnanimous and the first in Malaysian political history and a decision second to none. Mr Zaid Ibrahim, you can come to my constituency to stand on any ticket but BN and you will get my vote.

Don’t worry about your so-called colleagues and others who say you are not a member of parliament. These small-brained creatures are only worried about their livelihoods should BN come tumbling down.

You have made a great decision for the nation and you have what it takes to be called a true believer. Many of us are very happy that you resigned not because of a scandal or ill-health but because of principle. Millions will salute you, for you are a good man.
