English newspapers

New Straits Times headlined 51.2% and 53.2% Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) candidates answering their Science and Mathematics papers respectively in English as 26,378 candidates scored perfect results.

Star front-paged the police warning revellers not to go overboard in ushering the New Year if they do not want to spend their New Year in the lock-ups.

Malay newspapers

Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian also led with PMR results. Berita Harian led with a report stating that the results indicated that the teaching of Mathematics and Science in English helped raise the passing percentage in the two subjects.

Tamil newspapers

All three Tamil newspapers Malaysia Nanban , Tamil Nesan and Makkal Osai also headlined the PMR results.

New Straits Times suggested that Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva ought to hold fresh elections to consolidate his legitimacy to power in the wake of protests from supporters of former Thai premier, Thaksin Shinawatra.

Utusan Malaysia called upon the relevant parties to understand the significance in the increased number of passes for PMR Mathematics and Science subjects even as the Education Ministry ponders on the continuing of teaching of Mathematics and Science in English.

Berita Harian commented that the PMR 2008 results indicated the narrowing gap between rural and urban students for the Bahasa, English, Mathematics and Science subjects.

Makkal Osai asked whether Bangladesh would see a new dawn of politics as Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina Wajid, won 229 out of 300 seats in the national elections.

Malaysia Nanban highlighted the upcoming Malaysia-India memorandum of understanding that would be sealed on Jan 3, 2008 as it would address the issue of exploited Indian workers in Malaysia.

Tamil Nesan called for prices of products to be reduced.
