AVIMA Awards: Calling for nominations!
Coming hot off the heels of VIMA 2008 (Voice Independent Music Awards), Voize.my is now calling for nominations for the Asia Voice Independent Music Awards 2009 (AVIMA ).
AVIMA 2009 is Asia's first indie music awards and will recognise Asia's finest Indie acts from India, Singapore, China, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Middle East, Kazakhstan, Korea and Indonesia.
"We didn't expect VIMA to be so successful, and to have had the massive support from the indie acts and media, it was a major boost for the local music scene in Malaysia.
"What was interesting was that the whole of Asia was observing how it went with VIMA, and we are slowly but surely getting quite a number of entries from all over Asia.
"To date, we have almost 300 songs submitted," said Siva Chandran, the managing editor of Voize.my and founder of VIMA/AVIMA 2009.
"We are upping the ante and contacting more and more indie acts as the deadline draws near (Feb 12, 2009).
"So far, almost 1,500 acts from across Asia have been contacted via the web," added Voize.my marketing executive and co-founder of VIMA/AVIMA 2009 Premo.
The top winners of VIMA 2008 automatically qualify for AVIMA 2009, and some of the top bands in this pool include Pop Shuvit, Estranged and Deja Voodoo Spells (all from Malaysia), Thaitanium (Thailand), Motherjane (India), Koil (Indonesia) and The Great Spy Experiment (Singapore).
The judging system for AVIMA 2009 will be divided into online voting, judges' score and nominees getting to nominate fellow nominees.
