your say ‘The most disheartening fact is that the political crisis occurred in a state where the ruler is one of the most beloved and respected sultans.'

On 'The power is in your hands, Tuanku'

Voices of Rakyat:

The political crisis in Perak has been dragging on for few weeks now with no ending in sight. What a shameful situation for a country that has enjoyed independence for more than 50 years.

This political impasse has made Malaysia the laughing stock of the world. Without doubt, the Commonwealth must be very embarrassed to have a member country like Malaysia.

One thing for sure, foreign investors will not want to come to Malaysia with the kind of leadership that is ruling our country now.

The most disheartening fact is that the political crisis occurred in a state where the ruler is one of the most beloved and respected sultans.

Nobody knows the truth behind the scenes, but one thing for sure is that we all felt very sad to hear that our beloved, highly esteemed, well-educated and extremely intelligent Sultan of Perak has now been linked to the sickening, corrupted, absolutely immoral and uneducated gangsters from Umno.

Our beloved sultan, you are one of the most respected sultans in Malaysia. You are the most intelligent and rightful person to solve the constitutional crisis in Perak in view of your impressive legal background.

Yet, you let the gangsters from Umno wreck your backyard like nobody's business. How can you allow them to do so?

We are really quite puzzled. We really hope that you will give us the chance to exercise our very basic human right and that is to vote again in fresh state elections.

Churchill: Tuanku, greetings from your loyal subject from Perak. I hope this message find you in good health.

I am writing on behalf of my family members, friends and relatives to appeal to you to dissolve the Perak state assembly and call for fresh elections.

I hope Tuanku will respect the rakyat 's wishes as for the past one month we have been crying out for our voices to be heard and for our right to decide who should rightfully, legally and morally govern Perak.

We all believe Tuanku to be a fair and just person but when Tuanku disallowed the assembly from being dissolved in February and kept mum, people began to speculate if Tuanku had a hidden agenda or worse, if Tuanku was a tool of Umno.

I think Tuanku is neither. But if Tuanku let this impasse persist and keeps mum on the abuses by PDRM, MACC and the judiciary, then I think this would be very unhealthy not only for Perak but for the entire nation.

Tuanku, we appeal to you to do what is morally and legally right and not let the rakyat down. And that is by returning to the people of Perak their right to choose their own government.

Agilan Shan: As a citizen of Perak, I'm very upset at the management of Perak. The solution is very simple - just hold fresh elections and the issue will be settled.

It is really unfair for BN to just take over Perak like that. Everybody knows that the number of BN reps is equals with PR's and that is 29 to 29.

The other three are just ‘BN friendly' but they are not in BN. I hope our sultan will consider this matter and decide to have fresh polls.

Daniel Wong: We have witnessed two types of laws in Perak unfolding during the past 12 months. One is constitutional law and the other is law of the jungle.

For whatever reasons best known to the concerned parties themselves, Perak is now in the forefront role of a watchman and is being watched worldwide. We are now famous for all the wrong reasons.

I pray for all parties to heed to the calling of God. Do God's will for the people. You and your generations to come will be blessed with health, wealth and most of all, the peace from God.

On Umno's 1993 blitzkrieg against the sultans

Yuvan: Almost all the political events and incidents of the past several months and the current chaotic situation in Perak have shown clearly that Umno leaders are desperate for power, whatever the cost may be.

It is, therefore, no surprise that the same people who spoke so vehemently about stripping the rulers of their immunity and privileges are today trying to ‘hide' behind the same rulers in their desperation to achieve what they want.

Politicians, in general, are not good in their history. History is a record of the good as well as of the bad. Good politicians will try to remember history and not repeat the mistakes and follies of the past.

Bad politicians, on the other hand, will ‘conveniently forget' history as they do not want to be ‘haunted' by all the misdeeds of the past committed by them and their political parties.

And, of course, these days we come across some very bold politicians who want to re-write history according to their ‘own version' with all twisted facts and figures.

Baiyuensheng: Its quite frightening that the rulers now are taking the opportunity of the current political 'weakness' to demand immunity thereby attempting to destroy the 'check and balance' mechanism.

This will take us back to the old days when they relished their 'freedom' to do things without being accountable.

On Nizar vs Zambry: Matter goes to federal court

Peter Ooi: What ever outcome of the court decision, no party is the winner. Zambry can win the legal battle but not the hearts of the Perakians.

He knows that the vast majority of the population in Perak are not in favour of being ruled by him. Under such circumstances, he cannot confidently make decisions and claim them to be the wishes of the people.

Rather, he would be frowned upon each time he claims to be speaking for the Perakians.

On the other hand, if Nizar were to win, he may have the support of the Perakians but not of all the state assembly persons.

He would be just as ineffective as Zambry. Finally, I believe the best solution to this impasse is to have a fresh election.
