Permanent residents of the country will be extradited if they were found to be involved with opposition politics, said Deputy Home Minister Chor Chee Heung in Parliament today.
"There is presently no reports that there are any Indonesian workers or permanent residents who are involved in discrediting the government," said Chor, who is also MP for Alor Setar (Kedah).
"However, those who are found to be involved in any such wrongful activities (kegiatan salah) will be chased out (halau keluar) of the country," he added.
Chor was replying to a question by Ruhanie Ahmad, MP for Parit Sulong (Perak) on whether the Home Ministry has received any reports indicating that Indonesian workers and permanent residents were involved in discrediting the government.
He maintained that his ministry had no proof of anyone being involved but added that last year an Indonesian student from University Islam Antarabangsa (International Islamic University) was found to be active in politics.
"The student had participated in unhealthy activities such as street demonstrations and had been extradited."
Chor informed Parliament that presently there are about 240,000 permanent residents in the country.
"If they are found to be involved in any wrongful activities, we will withdraw their application for citizenship," he said.
Sexual business
Meanwhile, MP for Bukit Mertajam (Penang) Chong Eng requested Chor to state the measures taken to prevent female immigrants from being involved in prostitution.
She said that there are many reports in the media that female foreigners living in flats were prone to social vices and that flats were used to conduct sexual business.
"Immigrants must realise that they are bound by laws of the country. They are given lots of lee-way to find a living but they are to follow strictly the requirements in their work permits," said Chor.
"We are aware there are still some (female immigrant workers) who are involved in social vices and the government is always monitoring such people," he assured, adding that those who were found guilty will be extradited immediately.
