Religious school children shelter from rain outside their school at Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur.
The students are enrolled in a state-registered religious school which is overseen by a state Islamic affairs body.
Students attend classes for three hours on weekdays.
They are different from tahfiz students, who attend private residential schools which are privately-run and need not register with the state.
These schools have come under the spotlight after the death of 11-year-old Mohamad Thaqif Mohd Gaddafi, suspected after abuse at a tahfiz school in Kota Tinggi.
An assistant warden, 29, was arrested and is under probe for murder. The school denies abuse happens under its administration.
