We refer to your article that has been published in Malaysiakini 's website titled ' Has 30pct bumi equity target been achieved ' dated Dec 3, 2014 and ' Major flaw in computing bumi equity target ' dated Dec 4, 2014.

We uphold the importance of ensuring that the methodology in computing corporate equity ownership must reflect the actual scenario.

In this regard, the existing methodology is relevant and will be continued.

The use of par value is to ensure that corporate equity ownership by all types of companies can be measured using the same value of indicators.

Nevertheless, EPU, PMD is currently reviewing our methodology with a view to ensure its relevancy and accuracy at all times.

In line with this, the market value of the public-listed companies (PLCs) is being considered and will be reported in the Eleventh Malaysia Plan.

On the exclusion of ownership in the federal and state government companies, we would like to stress that government activities and government-linked companies (GLCs) belong to all Malaysians irregardless of their ethnicity.

However, GLCs have a role in facilitating the government policy of promoting bumiputera agenda.

They are also helping the government in reducing the socioeconomic imbalances and improving income of all Malaysian irregardless of race.
