An all hot under the collar Bayan Baru parliamentarian is set to sue for defamation those who smeared him and his family over the past few days in connection with a privatisation project.

Zahrain Hashim said he has instructed his counsel Haniff Khatry, to finalise the papers to file the suits, most notably against certain DAP politicians for falsely linking him and his family to a RM2 company that bid for the project in Penang's Bukit Jambul Golf & Country Club (BJCC).

"I and my family have nothing to do with the company.

"My lawyers are studying the issues involved and the smear campaign carried out by detractors against me.

"I will file the suits when the time is right," the outspoken MP told Malaysiakini today.

Warning issued to media

He also cautioned media organisations against publishing articles on the tender bid without clarifying facts with him, warning them they too were liable for legal consequences .

NONE Zahrain ( left ) was appointed director and chairperson of the state-owned Island Golf Properties Bhd (IGPB) on July 9, 2008, several weeks before the proposal to outsource management of the BJCC was mooted at a nine-man board meeting.

IGPB, a subsidiary of Penang Development Corporation (PDC), is the proprietor of BJCC.

Zahrain said notices for tender bids were advertised in several newspapers and only one company bid for the tender.

The company was established on Sept 29, 2008 with an initial paid-up capital of RM2 and authorised capital of RM100,000.

Zahrain said the bid was approved unanimously and collectively by all directors, but was subjected to PDC's endorsement.

"I did not approve it on my own. "It was not a dictatorship. It was dealt with democratically.

"Each director was allowed to speak and decide freely," he said.Zahrain accused his detractors of spreading lies without checking facts and he intend to put the record straight with his suits," he said.
