Saifuddin: AGM best chance to show Umno has changed

Mahashitla: Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, if you were the PM, I would gladly take my last chance and vote for BN-Umno.

But I see no hope that Umno can reform, not when former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad is around. It is best for Umno to stay on the sidelines for five to 10 years, or even more if Pakatan Rakyat performs well.

Mahathir took over an Umno which generally respected the constitution and obeyed the laws. He destroyed the independence of every institution of our democratic system and with that, transformed Umno into the wild monster it is today.

How do you transform a wild monster into an obedient dog that respects the constitution and obeys the laws of the country?

Gerard Lourdesamy: High Court Justice Hue Siew Kheng is a wise judge and this decision is in accordance with the law. She is never motivated by the personalities before her and she only concerns herself with the law and evidence.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and his counsel will have to explain their "contumelious conduct and cavalier attitude" towards the directions of the learned judge with regard to the case management.

Prima facie, the rules of court must be obeyed unless there are exceptional reasons. Just sitting on one's backside and doing nothing for almost a year is hardly a reason for the court to excuse the failure to comply with the directions.

Let us see if the executive-minded judges in the Court of Appeal overturn this decision by the learned judge or whether justice will prevail. Kudos to Justice Hue.

With connections of Umno and ex-PM plus Oxford brain, even a judge is supposed to 'kow tow' to him. Justice Hue Siew Kheng must be very a brave judge. A judicious one too.

Mushiro: KJ's attitude in court is the typical attitude of all Umno leaders, especially when they have to fight a case against a Pakatan Rakyat man.

This judge is brave to put KJ in his place. But one should not be surprised if KJ wins the appeal - this is still Umno's court.

Maybank confirms Bekir's RM780k card expenses

Ez24get: RM780,000 spent on a charge card in the first six months of this year is nothing to Sarawak CM's son Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib.

I suspect his non-credit card spending could be much, much more, given his high-living lifestyle.

To him, this money is like spending on tidbits because all the money is from the rakyat. But an ordinary person could not have saved this amount of tidbit money, even in three lifespans.
