Bersih 4.0 if EC bulldozes through re-delineation

CQ Muar: It is clear as daylight that both the government and the Election Commission (EC) are testing our patience. They should realise there is a limit to everything and that they are deliberately pushing us up against the wall.

The time has come to show that we mean business, hence the only answer is to stage an exceptional massive rally in order to get the message across.

Bersih co-coordinator S Ambiga, rest assured you have our blessings and undivided support. We call on all honest and true Malaysians of all races to unite and teach those recalcitrants a lesson they will never forget.

Let it go down as 'hari ini dalam sejarah'. We do not mean to inconvenience commuters and members of the public, but this action has become inevitable and necessary.

Ferdtan: I am all for Bersih 4.0 rally if Ambiga makes the call. She had said earlier it would be the last resort unless Bersih's demands are met.

The government had not responded positively in the last three rallies, and therefore there is no other option but for us to march again. People's power through public rally is the best way to get the attention of the BN government.

We don't expect the demands to be granted on a silver platter as it may adversely affect their chances of better results in later elections.

Any fight or struggle against any dictatorship or high-handedness of any authoritative government is expected to be long. Along the way it may seem useless, however, the keeping of faith (and of hope) is the key.

If the former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, can withstand the imprisonment of 27 years, most spent in isolated Robben Island, without giving up hope, what is our so-called failure of the past Bersih rallies?

I personally deem the past Bersih rallies as huge successes, moving from a smaller gathering of Bersih 1.0 consisting mostly of one race, to a massive multi-racial Bersih 3.0.

Those who have not attended the Bersih 3.0 on April 28, 2012 will not understand the exuberant feeling of togetherness and solidarity among Malaysians on that day. That was the day where Malaysians of all colours stood as one.

And we shall continue to be counted until we see success - no matter how hopeless the situation may seem to some.

JustaMalaysian: Ambiga, I salute you for your courage and for your exemplary leadership in Bersih. My whole family will be there for Bersih 4.0 if you call for one.

The aftermath of GE13 has convinced most Malaysians that a clean electoral roll and reasonably fair constituency delineation are two key ingredients of democratic process.

Reason: Every day many countries grant citizenship to people from places other than their countries. Plenty of Malaysians go to the West legally and illegally to get citizenship. So what is wrong if Malaysia does the same?

How do you know they did not deserve it? You mean only you deserve to be a Malaysian.

Not Convinced: Reason, ever heard about the Royal Commission in Immigrants in Sabah ? Which country encourages and approves citizenship obtain illegally. Only Malaysia.

Hplooi: Bersih should also take cognisant of current right-wing strategies to drive public debate onto racial-religious issues, e.g. allegations of 'DAP plotting to take over', the conversion laws; non-issues deliberately brought up to confuse certain sector, current brouhaha over mandatory ‘tamadun Islam' in private universities, etc.

Bersih must prepare clear and simple counter arguments against such kind divisive tactics, of which a major effort will be to demonise fair delineation with canard such as "fair delineation is part of a Chinese plot to take over power".

The battle is not for the hearts of the non-Malays, of which the power elite has given up. The real battle will be for the minds of the Malays.

If they can lock up the minds of the majority Malays, then they can continue to sideline the non-Malays until they are of no consequence politically. This is the real agenda and battle, and I am not very optimistic.

JomUbahUbah: I fully agreed with what Bersih leader Ambiga said. All Malaysians young and old, men and women must come out in full force in Bersih 4.0.

Liew Lean Kut: I am 72. I was there at Bersih 3.0 with my friends. I had smelt the tear gas and witness the police brutally bashing the participants.

I shall be there again if there is Bersih 4.0. It is a good day to die. Ambiga, we need a Malaysian Spring to wash away the dirt that had accumulated through these 30 years.

Odin: Liew Lean Kut, if there is a Bersih 4.0, you shall not die. You shall not.

Multi Racial: Bersih 4.0, I will be there rain or shine. This time we have to make sure more than a million are there.

Anak Perak: Ambiga, I agree with you that cleaning up the electoral role is a prerequisite but what is more important is the actual delineation exercise itself which must involve Bersih and all key stakeholders to ensure the delineation is fairly done, otherwise we will be back to square one even if the electoral roll is clean.

Caripasal: It is time for Pakatan Rakyat and Bersih to work together in setting up a task force to transfer voters from super-majority constituencies to tightly-contested rural areas.

City folks should change their address back to their hometown. There is no need to win a constituency by 20,000 or 30,000 majority.

Since EC has no objection in registering 100 voters in one address, they should allow Pakatan local leaders in lending their address for re-registration purposes. This allow every vote cast to have equal weightage in the GE.

Change your IC address and change your constituency now.

Dood: Yes, we might as well start planning. There's one thing for sure that you can count on happening, and that is the EC making electoral rules in Umno-BN's favour, regardless of what you all think.
