As more than 2,000 people had been detained under Ops Cantas, acting Selangor police chief A Thaiveegan has asked all gangster societies &ldquo;to change their lifestyle&rdquo;.


 He said that the members of those gangster groups not only bring trouble to society but also to themselves.

 &ldquo;We urge all these groups to change their way of living... If they are arrested, investigated and charged (in the court), will they be happy?&rdquo; he told a press conference at a Hari Raya open house at the Selangor police contingent headquarters today.


 Thaiveegan said that opportunities are everywhere for everyone to make their lives better in this country.


 &ldquo;If there are people who say that there are no opportunities, that is not true. We have the opportunity to go for education, training and working.


 &ldquo;If foreigners can come here to earn a living and become rich without getting involved in any crimes, why do you choose a way to become rich by breaking the law? So this is something which is unacceptable,&rdquo; he said.


 Ops Cantas was launched on Aug 17 nationwide in a bid to counter the recent spate of shootings and other violent crimes.


 Yesterday, deputy inspector-general of police Mohd Bakri Zinin said that 2,247 people had been detained under the operation up until yesterday and seven guns, a hand grenade and 77 sharp weapons had been confiscated.
