YOURSAY ‘Do you think we cannot see you practise selective prosecution?’

Aries46: The general view is that the role of the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) in criminal matters is to determine if a crime has been committed and to adduce evidence to that effect to charge the suspect.

It is not for the AGC to pre-empt or pass judgment based on extenuating factors or figment  as to the context in which the crime was committed. That is for the courts to explore and pass judgment.

For that matter, many of those that were charged in the recent sedition swoop were within their right to express what they believed to be the truth.

In fact, these so-called crime were merely political/ideological in nature compared to Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali's grave and provocative rant to burn the Bible, a serious threat to peace and national unity and a blatant sacrilege of the Christian faith.

In defending such a heinous crime, is it the AGC's contention that crimes committed presumably in the context of defending Islam are lawful and permissible regardless of its threat to national unity and sacrilege on the faith of others?

Disgusted: "The free distribution of the Bible outside the compound of SMK Jelutong can threaten the faith of Muslim students who lack religious knowledge if they were to read the  Bible, more so as it contains Jawi writing," said the AG.

First and foremost, there was no evidence such a thing took place as it was merely a hearsay or something cooked up by Perkasa.

Secondly, if as adherents of Islam claim that the Quran is the word of God and came as divine inspiration to Prophet Muhammad then should it not be powerful enough to build the  faith of Muslims in their religion instead of fearing the word of God of the Christians - the Bible or Alkitab.

Whilst Christians are free to study Quran, the Islamic authorities fear that Muslims reading Alkitab or Bible will be "confused" and question their faith.

Don't they make it look like the Bible is more powerful than the Quran that it needs protection from mere men like Ibrahim and other authorities who act as its guardians?

Kangkung: I wonder why the opposition leaders and supporters who have been charged with sedition by Umno's AGC do not have the pleasure of having their statements "be seen as a
whole and not separated from the context"?

AG Abdul Gani Patail, do you think the rakyat are fools? Do you think we cannot see you practise selective prosecution?

It would have been better had you just kept quiet and pretended nothing has happened than making all these crap explanations.

CQ Muar: Not long from now, our country will be having our very own version of an English lexicon - the Malaysian definition and interpretation of words in the English language.

It seems that our set of laws are tailored according to the standard, whims and fancies of the AGC under the jurisdiction of Abdul Gani.

Obvious cases of sedition, for example, the threat to burn the bible by certain quarters have been fiercely denied and defended. Whereas, the recent crackdown of all those (especially the opposition) under remand, detention and arrested fell under the purview of the Sedition dragnet.

Having said that, Abdul Gani, just enlighten us thus far have Christianity ever caused disharmony, disunity, enmity, hatred or ill-will to our country? If not, then you certainly qualify as the country's greatest sinner in Islam.

Negarawan: How many innocent lives have been destroyed by the corrupted and incompetent AG and judiciary?

The 47 percent minority Umno government is ever so desperate to abuse the country's legal process to maintain its grip on power. How long more will God Almightly tolerate this, even to the point where His Holy Books have been trampled upon, and allowed to the burnt?

The Christian peoples of Sabah and Sarawak must take heed of this and realise that it was their folly in voting Umno-BN that has lead to the country being ruled by Muslim extremists and bigots.

Anonymous_1388755032: Dear DAP/PKR, please translate this statement in many languages (including de facto law minister Nancy Shukri's statement) and print thousands of copies and distribute it throughout the length and breadth of Sabah and Sarawak. Let the people know the truth.

YUNoAnon: AG, in the name of defending religious sanctity, you have given the green light for proxy religious war. Good job. This is a precedent, you will live to regret it.

Anonymous_1388755032: The statement from this useless AG must be faxed to the UN Security Council so that they realise that they have appointed a rogue government in its council.

AB Sulaiman: AG's response reminds me of the following story: A young Romeo of a man is about to get married but knows that even after marriage he still wishes to go chasing after girls.

So he asks his trusted friend what he should do if he got caught with his pants down? His friend's answer is this: "Go ahead as you wish. If you get caught even with your pants down, never ever admit to your infidelity."

Okay to burn Bibles to defend sanctity of Islam
