The police have no intention of interfering in the duties and responsibilities of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), said inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar.

In a media statement, the police chief pointed out all government agencies have their own tasks and responsibilities in carrying out probes, the main aim of which is to uncover the truth.

"I wish to also remind all quarters not to issue statements which can be seen as opportunistic.

"Give space and opportunity for all agencies involved to carry out their tasks without interference from those with personal interests or ulterior agendas," he said.

Though he did not mention names, it is believed Khalid was referring to MACC special operations director Bahri Mohamad Zin ( photo ).

Speaking to Malaysiakini yesterday, Bahri reiterated his claim that hidden hands were behind the police's action to probe and detain his officers.

He also vowed to trace the culprits, saying they may have political powers, but he has God on his side.

Following this, MACC deputy chief commissioner II Mustafar Ali also lambasted the police, claiming it was interfering in the graft-buster's work.

However, Khalid denied police have received orders or were acting under pressure from others.

"The police are clear in its direction of this investigation where classified government documents and banking information were leaked and manipulated by certain quarters with the intention to threaten national stability," he said.

"The result of the investigation will be forwarded to the attorney-general for further orders," he added.
