Nur Jazlan: Rakyat no longer keen to demonstrate

The sentiment to demonstrate among the general public is no longer high, although there is a feeling of dissatisfaction against the government, said deputy home minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

He said this was proven since 1998 when Anwar Ibrahim was sacked as deputy prime minister.

"The people have become rational and they think about the long term. After 2013, the people are no longer keen (to demonstrate)," he told reporters after an Aidilfitri gathering at Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Bukit Mewah today.

He was asked on a Bersih 4 rally being planned to be held at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching (Sarawak) and Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) on Aug 29 and 30 to demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak.

If there is a rally that breaches the law and held without the permission of the police, do not go, he added.

He hoped the organiser would get permission from the police to hold the rally.

At the event, Nur Jazlan also launched the waste isolation campaign and Communication for Behavioural Impact (Combi) programme to address dengue.
