More than 10,000 people gathered yesterday in over 70 cities across the globe as part of the Global Bersih rallies in support of the Bersih 4 protest in Kuala Lumpur.

Among the strongest turnout in Australia was Sydney, Melbourne and Perth which saw at least 1,000 participants while in the US, New York and San Francisco saw similar strong participation.

Other cities with strong numbers were Taipei, Hong Kong and even in Shanghai, which is under direct rule by Beijing that does not normally tolerate protests by its own citizens.

Likewise, in London, more than 2,000 Malaysians turned up in show of support where Sarawak Report editor-in-chief Clare Rewcastle Brown, who is wanted by Malaysian police, spoke.

Rewcastle Brown, an investigative journalist, had doggedly covered alleged misappropriation in 1MDB and the deposits of RM2.6 billion into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank accounts.

Bersih 4 is calling for Najib's resignation over the scandals.

Here's a snapshot of some of the global protest.
