MCA has vowed not to fall into DAP's trap and quit BN, said its president Liow Tiong Lai.

"We are part of the government and entrusted by the people. Why (you) want us to quit BN?

"We will not fall into DAP's trap, we want to protect the right of the people and the Chinese. For this, we will stay in mainstream politics," Liow said in an interview with Sin Chew Daily.

MCA had been constantly challenged by DAP to quit BN over the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) 1965 or Act 355 controversy.

Besides that, Umno leaders, including minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, have also made similar calls.

"Some say MCA should quit if the government tables (its version) of the amendment to Act 355 that is similar to PAS' (version).

"I would like to ask, 'Why should MCA be held responsible when other parties break up the spirit of BN?'," Liow said.

Liow said while MCA welcomed constructive criticism, it was unfair forthe party to get all the flak while other parties get off the hook.

"Do not just scold MCA in the coffee shop and when (you) are not slamming others. Meaningless criticism only brings negative energy and destruction to the society and country," he said.

Liow also chided DAP, which he said only knew how to "issue statements" and "make video clips insulting MCA".

"They should look up at MCA. Do something constructive," he said, adding DAP only instigated the people's emotion and sparked hatred against the government.

"They just don't know how difficult the mission is in defending the diversity."
