The announcement that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is planning to join the opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan has drawn criticism from a portal, which is aligned to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

According to MyKMU.net, apart from being the “king of U-turns, and in some cases even roundabouts”, Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad is also the undisputed “king of hijack”.

“He hijacked 'Nothing2hide, he hijacked Bersih, and now he wants to hijack Pakatan Harapan, wanting to even change its name,” it said.

The portal said it would be interesting to note the response of DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) with regard to Mahathir's intention to change the opposition coalition's name and logo.

“This is as if all those in Pakatan are stupid, and do not know how to create their own logo...

“If they wanted to do it, they would have have done so a long time ago. There is a reason why they have not done it yet,” it added.

The portal claimed that it is not a case of Mahathir and Bersatu joining Harapan, but rather Harapan joining Mahathir and Bersatu.

Yesterday, Mahathir told a press conference that Bersatu intends to join the opposition coalition.

"We agreed on the principles that we need, other than a new name, we also want to have a (new) logo and symbol for the election, as well as a manifesto," he had said.

Last December, Bersatu and Harapan signed an electoral pact and agreed to form an opposition coalition together before the next election.

This was to facilitate the formation of a new government if they were to win the 14th general election.
