PKR has urged PAS leaders to relinquish their posts in the Selangor state government if the Islamist party finalises its decision to cut ties with PKR at the party’s 63rd muktamar in Alor Setar, Kedah.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said it is the “most respectful and dignified move” PAS can make if it has decided to sever ties with PKR. 

"Any other move (other than severing ties) will only nauseate the rakyat because it would seem that the opposition are busy attacking each other (over seats), while at the same time wanting to benefit from 'goodies' and positions in Selangor. 

"Where is the logic when one has already severed ties with Amanah and DAP and is now mulling ending collaboration with PKR, all while still working together in the Selangor state government?" Saifuddin said in a statement. 

"Therefore, I will wait for the final decision from the PAS muktamar and PKR will continue to work with all parties who want to see the end of Najib Abdul Razak's administration."

Saifuddin also expressed his disappointment over the attacks and criticisms leveled against Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, who is also PKR Deputy President, at the muktamar yesterday. 

Selangor delegate Nik Bakri Nik Mat had asked Azmin to mind his tongue, over his “tok lebai who was defeated in his own area” remark. 

"PAS had also made clear its intention to lead several states, including Selangor, which is now being led by PKR. 

"Any decision that would be made by PAS is their full right and PKR will respect it," said Saifuddin. 

"But it is better for any decisions made to be finalised as soon as possible and not be prolonged."

Saifuddin added that any decision made by PAS would impact the Islamist party's role in the Selangor government, and also affect the cooperation between the two parties in charting strategies to face the 14th General Election. 

Meanwhile, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail took a softer stance, saying the party will await the Islamist party's syura council decision on the matter. 

She said at present, PAS reps held positions in Selangor, as did DAP reps, when they won as part of Pakatan Rakyat. 

The opposition leader and Permatang Pauh MP also expressed hope that PAS would not go forward and sever ties with PKR, as the Islamist party had previously said they want to defeat Umno and BN, and had agreed with the rest of the opposition on some issues, including criticising 1MDB. 

PAS has been at loggerheads with PKR for some time over issues such as the latter's hesitance to offer support for the former's Act 355 agenda, as well as PKR working with PAS' nemeses, DAP and Amanah.
