Brunei to offer humanitarian assistance to Myanmar

Brunei has expressed its concern over the situation in Myanmar's Rakhine State and said it is willing to provide humanitarian assistance to Myanmar, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

"Brunei Darussalam shares its concerns over the developing humanitarian situation in the Rakhine State of Myanmar, and is closely following the situation," said a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade late Thursday.

"Brunei Darussalam expresses its willingness to work with Myanmar in exploring ways in which it can provide humanitarian assistance.

"In this regard, Brunei Darussalam is prepared to offer financial assistance to alleviate the situation of those affected," the statement added.

Terrorists launched fresh attacks on police outposts in Rakhine State located on the western coast of Myanmar on Aug 25, displacing residents from a number of areas.

A total of 59 villages and 6,842 houses have been burned down by terrorists, with eight bridges destroyed by planted mines.

Meanwhile, about 371 terrorists have been reportedly killed in clashes with the security forces.
