COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 2,433 new Covid-19 cases today, marking the sixth consecutive day where daily infections are above 2,000.
The bulk of the new cases were in Selangor with more than 700.
The states and territories of Sabah, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Kelantan also recorded three-digit gains in new infections.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement today, also reported 1,277 new recoveries.
However, the recoveries are significantly surpassed by the new infections, pushing the number of patients under treatment higher.
There are now 27,332 Covid-19 patients but only 28,674 available beds.
On the current trajectory, the government will run out of beds for Covid-19 patients in a couple of days.
The government has constantly revised the number of available beds upwards but the new beds being added are not in full-fledged Covid-19 hospitals which are near their limits.
Instead, convention centres and stadiums are being converted to hold Covid-19 patients.

The latest fatalities put the death toll at 551. Detail of the latest casualties are as follows:
Selangor (5 deaths)
Patient 111,571 (Death 543): 78-yea-old Malaysian man. Died at Sungai Buloh Hospital. Had a history of high blood pressure and gout.
Patient 113,691 (Death 544): 59-year-old Malaysian man. Died at Sungai Buloh Hospital. Had a history of diabetes and high blood pressure.
Patient 115,953 (Death 545): 60-year-old Malaysian man. Died at Selayang Hospital. Had a history of chronic kidney disease.
Patient 121,596 (Death 546): 78-year-old Malaysian man. Died at Selayang Hospital. Had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease and kidney stone.
Patient 132,073 (Death 547): 51-year-old Malaysian woman. Died at Selayang Hospital. Had a history of breast cancer.
Kuala Lumpur (3 deaths)
Patient 132,207 (Death 548): 94-year-old Malaysian woman. Died at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Had a history of high blood pressure, asthma and dyslipidemia.
Patient 112,204 (Death 550): 60-year-old man who is a non-citizen. Died at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.
Patient 114,336 (Death 551): 37-year-old man who is a non-citizen. Died at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. Had a history of chronic kidney disease.
Sabah (1 death)
Patient 131,514 (Death 549): 83-year-old Malaysian woman. Brought in dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu. Had a history of high blood pressure, Rheumatoid Arthritis, chronic lung disease, osteoporosis and beta-thalassemia.

For the third consecutive day, every state recorded new daily Covid-19 cases.
Noor Hisham said to date, 254 out of 586 Covid-19 clusters are still active. Sixty-five of these clusters reported new cases today.
He said seven clusters were declared resolved, namely the Bandar Impian, Indah Mas, Kubota, Batu Tiga, Rumah Merah, Sri Jujur and PTS Sibuga clusters.
However, he also reported the emergence of five new clusters in Selangor, Sabah and Kelantan.
The Cyber construction site cluster involves the districts of Sepang, Petaling, Klang and Hulu Langat in Selangor.
The cluster reported its first Covid-19 case on Dec 31 following a targeted screening. To date, 67 out of the 140 people screen were positive with Covid-19.
The Textmile cluster involves a district of Gombak in Selangor.
The first case was reported on Jan 9 following a targeted screening exercise. Of the 351 people screened, 19 have the virus.
The index case of the Jalan Sibuga cluster is Patient 125,813 who was discovered through a screening of symptomatic people in Sandakan on Jan 7.
To date, nine out of 19 people screened in the cluster is carrying the virus.
The Alor Durian cluster involves the districts of Tumpat and Kota Bharu in Kelantan.
The index case, Patient 125,408 was found positive with Covid-19 through a screening of interstate travellers on Jan 6.
To date, 17 out of 77 people screened in the clusters have been infected.
The Wakaf Lanas cluster involves the Pasir Puteh district in Kelantan.
Patient 122,818, who is the index case, was confirmed positive with Covid-19 on Jan 5 following a screening of interstate travellers.
To date, 11 out of 29 people screened in the cluster have the virus.
