Congrats on beating cancer, now pay my lawyer - Teresa tells Jamal

DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok has reminded Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Yunos, who declared that he was now cancer-free, to settle the sum he owed her lawyer.

“Congratulations,” posted the Seputeh MP on Facebook in response to a news article quoting Jamal as stating that the intensive treatment he underwent had completely removed the cancer.

“Time for Jamal to pay my lawyer as ordered by the court,” Kok added.

Last October, Kok obtained a court order to seize and sell the contents of Jamal’s house after the latter failed to pay RM50,000 for her legal costs upon losing a RM300,000 defamation lawsuit.

The RM300,000 was awarded to Kok last year following a seven-year legal battle with the former leader of the infamous “red shirts”.

Kok filed the defamation suit in 2017 after Jamal accused her of misappropriating funds from the Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor under the Selangor government's Skim Mesra Usia Emas initiative.

She argued in her lawsuit that Jamal's remarks implied she had misused state funds and acted unethically.

In March this year, the Umno leader’s health had deteriorated after doctors discovered that his cancer had spread to his brain.

“After battling end-stage cancer for four to five months, specialists have finally confirmed that the cancer is no longer in my body,” he said in a statement today.
