Nauseating news of new Mercedes purchases

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the report that the Terengganu BN government had purchased 14 new Mercedes-Benz E200 Kompressors worth RM3.43 million for its state exco and senior officers.

Just when Malaysians all over the country are feeling the effects of recent increase in the prices of food and petroleum, we receive this nauseating news of wastage of public funds for the benefit of a select few in Terengganu.

For the state secretary to have the gall to say that the German-made cars were bought for safety reasons and were more reliable for long-term use is definitely a slap in the face of our local car manufacturer Proton.

Then, there's the question of the four-year old Proton Perdana V6 Executive cars that are being replaced and presumed to be in good condition.

I supposed it will be sold to the state exco members for a song so that their wives can use it to do their marketing or for their sons and daughters to move around in their colleges or universities.

No wonder the current state government fought so hard to have the federal government return the billions of ringgit in oil royalty due to them after it was taken away when PAS ruled Terengganu.

The action of these band of politicians in Terengganu will not boost the people's confidence that certain BN state governments could be trusted to handle state funds meant for the benefit of the people.

In comparison, the new Penang state government cancelled the orders for new official cars for exco members made by the previous administration.

Besides Penang, I am sure the exco members in Kedah, Perak and Selangor are still using their more than four-year-old ‘rickety’ Proton Perdanas and going about performing their official duties safely and diligently.
