I refer to Malaysiakini report Najib dealt a blow in by-elections.

The by-election results at Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau have again proven BN's rejection by the rakyat.

We are seeing the culmination of a new wave of political thinking, unprecedented in history of the nation. The general opinion of the rakyat irrespective of race or religion is that we want a change from a system so encased and immersed in trickery, controversy and the amassing of great wealth and power.

This even to the extent of using to their own advantage the institutions which are there to protect the rakyat and to implement justice for all. Some of these law enforcers and upholders of justice are even seen to be working under duress or forced subservience.

BN does not want to accept the reality of the situation and continues to defy the rakyat. BN, in particular Umno and MIC, live in an Utopia where they think that they are the only saviours of their race and that others will not be able to or lack the capability to take care of the people's interests and well-being.

It is a very familiar tune heard over and over again for many years so much so that today it plays like a broken record with no clarity in the sound.

These parties think by uttering some frightening words and with some theatrical actions, the rakyat will continue to follow them like sheep being led to their slaughter. They are so intoxicated with power that they refuse to change and are blind to what the rakyat really wants.

It is becoming more evident from the results of the recent by-elections that Malaysians of today want a new system that rides on fairness, clean and efficient governance and total accountability.

It has also brought about an awakening to a nationalistic thinking rather than one attached to race. Consequently, the rakyat is seen to want a good and promising future for everyone. It certainly augurs well for the country when the people slowly move away from thinking along communal lines.

If BN continues with its defiance and is not willing to see within itself to bring about changes, then it is seen as digging its own grave while the opposition gains in strength to eventually replace them completely as the new leaders of the country.

Another very obvious failure of BN as seen in the recent by-election at Bukit Selambau is that a leader within the coalition was seen as a liability and may have been a major contributory factor for BN losing ground.

This person is living in a world of his own and refuses to budge from his completely worn-out seat.

BN has to learn to be humble in defeat and not come up with lame and unintelligible reasons for its own drawbacks, failures and rejection by the rakyat. Instead, see the clear signals and try to win back the confidence by reforming and not by defiance.

Umno's recall of a former prime minister to join its ranks in campaigning is seen as a sign of desperation. It goes to show that they by themselves are incapable of regaining lost support and have to get a man who is well past his prime to help to try to salvage some of their lost glory.

The only party within BN who has actually undergone quite a lot of change for the better is Gerakan. But its advice in relation to the future survival of BN are all but falling on deaf ears.

Gerakan would be better of moving out from BN rather than work with a group which has no clear direction in the midst of changing times and a new awakening.

If the Perak debacle is not resolved soon according to the rakyat's wishes for a fresh mandate, BN can expect to face an ignominious demise. Forcing their own way through is like hitting below the belt.

You are put there to serve the rakyat and not for the rakyat to serve you and your own interests.
