I refer to the Malaysiakini report Speaker vs Speaker: Ganesan states his case
R Ganesan, who is not even a state assembly person, should never have been appointed a a speaker. This is, in fact, a disgrace to the other BN state assembly persons who were not given a chance to be appointed to such a senior position in the Perak state assembly. Was there no one senior enough other than Ganesan to fill the post of speaker?
In the first place, the state assembly had not formally convened and no motion was passed during the fracas could be considered as legitimate. Only a band of desperate state assembly persons would pass a motion before the royal address.
Seen from a different perspective, it was as good as being disrespectful to the royalty in going for the food served on the banquet table even before the royalty gave consent to start dining.
With all due respect to the royal family of Perak, the palace should immediately summon Zambry Abdul Kadir for his lack of respect and haste in passing the motions. Allowing the motions to be passed before the royal address is setting a dangerous precedent for Malaysian politics and a further insult to the dignity of the royalty in Malaysia.
Now, with the decision being made by the Kuala Lumpur High Court, Zambry should immediately step down gracefully and the prime minister should apologise to the people of Perak for the impasse that he was seen involved in.
This instead of defending the decision to physically remove V Sivakumar out of the state sssembly. It is a shameful act and to be seen condoning it is just as bad.
The three state assembly persons who defected should immediately vacate their positions to give way for by-elections for the people to decide on who should be their rightful representatives. Two of them should be charged in court for their alleged corruption cases, instead of being protected by Perak BN.
‘BN-friendly' state assembly person, Hee Yit Fong should immediately resign to give way for a by-election to prove that she still has the people's support, or be deemed as having lost the people's confidence despite of her decision to hold on to her position as state assembly person for Jelapang.
BN component parties will not be asking for the dissolution of the Perak state assembly and this clearly shows the lack of integrity in the way they choose to win the people's confidence.
I no longer have confidence in BN from what I have observes over the past three months - the last straw being the May 7 state assembly meeting.
At best, the legitimate menteri besar of Perak, Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin, should be allowed to dissolve the Perak state assembly and call for fresh elections in view of the current deadlock caused by the defection of three ‘frog' assembly persons.
