My dear prime minister,
I am delighted to see your new stance towards the Perak political crisis, that BN is ready for talks with Pakatan Rakyat to solve the impasse. Much has been said by so many Malaysians from all walks of life in as many places ranging from mamak teh tarik stalls in the kampung to five-star hotel lounges/coffee houses.
Many battles have been fought, won and lost by both sides in the courts of law that the rakyat of Perak in particular and all Malaysians at home or abroad in general, are cheesed off by the mockery of democracy and tired by the endless ding-dongs of political antics.
Judging from the body language from both sides of the divide, it does not seem to me that the so-called talks, if they materialise, will change the current scenario. Remember what our Dr Mahathir Mohamad said, many years ago, about Gatt - ‘Gather And Talk, Talk', nothing changes!
My humble advice to you and HRH The Sultan of Perak is to go back to the people ie, hold fresh state elections and let them decide who or which political entity has their support. One person, one judge or even a panel of a dozen judges, are not the ‘suara rakyat'.
BN must have the guts to take this noble step to endear yourselves to the people who will forgive all past bad deeds, if any.
Furthermore, even if fresh elections are held, and if BN loses, you have not lost anything, since you already lost the state of Perak in the last general elections, therefore just can just console yourself that the loss is nothing and only the status quo for BN.
But the gain of the people's trust in BN will be tremendous and telling for the next general elections. Victory or defeat, BN should henceforth concentrate all efforts by genuinely working hard for the welfare of the people currently facing global economic meltdown.
To most people of Perak, and unfortunately true, BN's move is deemed as power-grabbing. The assembly persons who have swayed like coconut trees in the wind cannot be fielded by BN in any future election as they are termed as betrayers of trust by the rakyat. Sun Tzu's ‘Art of War' has a name for such people.
The people who advice you not to go for fresh mandate in Perak are those who see short-term benefits, goodies to be gained while in power and could not care less if BN suffers defeat in three or four years' time. Let BN takes the hindermost position and we make hay while the sun shines!
I have a lot more to say, but suffice it is for me to ask you to come down from the ivory tower (like you are doing now, visiting the crowded locations of your rakyat) and be like your beloved father, the People's Prime Minister.
You can either adopt my suggestion or leave it, it is your prerogative. If you leave it, I am afraid that the groundswell will gather momentum to become a major earthquake which will wreck BN beyond repair in the next general elections and confirm that your term is, in fact, the predicted end of the word ‘Rahman'.
By the way, I am an non-active life member of a BN component party.
