• Pakatan, tread cautiously, softly in Perak

The Perak fiasco has gone for long enough. Pakatan Rakyat may be seem victorious in winning over public perception while BN falls to a new low to the extent of skipping the Penanti by-election.

Now the court cases are not only between the two menteri Besar, but also between the two speakers, each claiming the other as ‘illegal'.

The rakyat has grown tired over the impasse. Too many arguments are being presented, and there's too much information to be digested by the common layman. In the end, life goes on for the people, with or without a legitimate government in Perak.

It is still apparent that most of rakyat view Pakatan Rakyat as the victim in this Perak fiasco. If only the three ‘frogs' were a respectable bunch of assembly persons, this Perak fiasco would have ended a long time ago.

And the courts are not making this Perak fiasco any easier because they have been used as a venue to violate one of the most important fundamentals of democracy - the separation of powers.

Both sides badly want to remain in power so both their objectives are the same. There are no ‘virgins' in this case. BN is trying to remain in power through the defections of the three ‘frogs' and a vote of confidence in the assembly, while Pakatan wants to remain in power by going back to the people.

Pakatan is fortunate that this time round the method they have chosen resonates with the people's wishes. Nevertheless, we should remember that the objective of Pakatan remains the same as BN, which is to rule Perak for the next three years.

But I would like to remind Pakatan that it is a matter of time before you guys will start making the same mistakes as BN more so if this crisis is prolonged. Remember that the earth is round; you may be at the top of the world now, but 24 hours later you may be upside down!

In politics, tides will turn and the people's mood will change. If somehow BN is able to captalise on one mistake of yours during this crisis, and change public perception in that you are no less evil than BN, then you are doomed.

Yes, I can see that Pakatan is feeling very confident right now in that the majority of the rakyat are on their side and this is where they will start to get sloppy. Pakatan may end up like BN thinking that the rakyat are always going to be on their side no matter what they do.

Once they get overconfident, the mistakes will come and the tide will turn. Pakatan, please remember how BN squandered their 90% majority in Parliament ending up with less than a two-thirds majority and all that in less than five years.

If the court rules in your favour, ask the sultan again for a dissolution. If he refuses yet again, go to the assembly and have a vote of confidence. You may end up losing Perak, but somehow, at some point, you just have to admit that the three ‘frogs' were part of your mistakes.

If the court of appeal does not rule in your favour, Pakatan should choose to stop bringing the case up to the federal court and let BN continue to shoot itself in the foot in Perak. Worse come to worse, lose the battle now but win the war later.

Let BN win the battle now but lose the war later. What is a better way of ‘killing'your enemy by having them commit suicide on their own? Eventually, you will get your victory anyway but this time, with your bullets still intact.
