I refer to the Malaysiakini report Go ahead and sue: Subra dares Samy .
I am not a fan or supporter of S Subramaniam. Like S Samy Velu, Subra had spent many years in MIC yet was unable to bring much-needed changes for the betterment of the Indian community.
However, I am now compelled to support his latest outburst against Samy. Samy's mischievous attempt to detach MIED and AIMST from MIC is vey despicable.
Is he doing so to ‘ desperately avoid prosecution’ and to take covetous control and ownership of these crown jewels from MIC's remaining stable of assets?
There are certainly elements of truth when Subra says that the government had disbursed RM300 million for MIC's programmes, including providing land at nominal premiums for some of MIC's institutions.
These are the taxpayers' money. Like many other Indians, I had also donated cash to AIMST when it was under construction.
To isolate and remove MIED and AIMST is a devious move by Samy. Is this why he had remained and continues to remain in MIC after the referendum of March 8, 2008?
Is he buying time to make desperate changes to absolve himself from the misdeeds of his terms of office in MIC and the cabinet?
Samy has gone on record to say that the community still needs him...and that he has many more years to serve. These are the common words of politicians who have outlived their usefulness...if ever they were useful in the first place.
Why can't he now take the time to heal Maika Holdings and return the investments of the poor Indians who believed in him and Maika?
Is Maika beyond redemption, having been systematically stripped of its assets over the years under his control?
What is disturbing now is the continued silence from the newly-elected office-bearers of MIC. Are they going to allow the removal of MIED and AIMST, and inherit a party devoid of the very institutions that kept MIC going?
Are they prepared to earn the wrath of the Indian community after Samy is happily gone?
It is about time that all Indian Malaysians, whatever may be their political inclinations, rise and speak up against this huge betrayal of trust.
Subra has taken the lead, but he would be seen as an adversary bent on disturbing the status-quo. If the citizens speak up, even the authorities would have to intervene to halt this gross injustice.
