I refer to the Malaysiakini report Anwar issues ultimatum to PKR leaders .

Even though it took a long delay for Anwar Ibrahim to warn the trouble-creators, I believe that the public, and Pakatan Rakyat supporters in particular, want stern action to be taken against the member of Parliament for Kulim.

This because he has time and again defied the party’s stand on multi-religion and multi racial issues. To ignore this would encourage him further.

I think it is unfair to blame Anwar or PKR, for the recent defections as during the last election, the party did not have sufficient time or a large enough membership base to select the best candidates.

In any case, defections are nothing new as many ‘frogs’ have leaped from one party to another in the past.

Although this act is despicable, the law seems to condone and protect the right of elected reps to switch parties at the drop of the hat.

No less than the prime minister and his deputy have spoken in defence of such immoral and unethical behaviour.

Until and unless Parliament prohibits this, there will be no end to ‘frogs’ hopping around in Parliament and in the state assemblies.

What is important is that discipline must be maintained in Pakatan so that the public will have confidence in the coalition.
