I was taken back by the damnation prayer call by Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Aziz. I had high regard and respect for Nik Aziz but after reading about this damnation prayer l was disappointed.
I have lost my respect for him as a religious leader. It is indeed most unbecoming for a religious leader of his status to say such things. How can spiritual leaders, more so state leaders ever utter such things?
I can understand that the oil royalty issue is a contentious one and the people of Kelantan have the right to make claims but for heaven's sake please stop all this cursing and swearing in the name of God.
God is synonymous with our spiritual ideals and desires: truth, beauty, love, peace, bliss, justice and harmony. Using prayer sessions to condemn another person is not at all spiritual or religious. It does not reflect well on Nik Aziz to say such things.
Non-Muslims are now very confused with political and community leaders who are abusing the religion for their political and social agenda. These leaders should instead offer prayers to seek divine guidance from God in finding a lasting solution for the rakyat to be united and to live in an environment of peace and harmony.
In this context I am also disappointed with the antics of Pakatan Rakyat and Barisan National. The recent incident of stepping on a doormat with the faces of three independent Adun of the Perak state assembly and the torching of the Penang chief minister's portrait is indeed disgusting and shameful.
Why are our elected reps behaving in such a childish and demeaning way? What kind of examples are they setting for the younger generation with all their idiotic and rowdy behaviour in public?
