Stolen engines: Defence minister lucky he's not Japanese

I refer to the Malaysiakini report 'What else will go missing? The country?'

It is certainly disgusting and shameful to read that jet engines meant for the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s jet fighters have gone missing.

The rakyat thought that the armed forces is the only body that is corruption-free. This belief was shattered to pieces when news of the missing jet engines broke.

The question that ought to be asked is whether a fair and full investigation will be carried out to bring to justice those involved in such corrupt acts or will it end in another tragic ‘window dressing’ investigation.

Aside from armed forces personnel, the defence minister should also be held responsible. If this had happened in countries like Japan and Korea, not only the minister of defence would have resigned but he might have committed ‘hara-kiri’ (‘hnourable suicide).

Also, the entire cabinet there would have stepped down the moment such news broke.

In Malaysia, it seems no amount of scandals one after the another can bring down the leaders and the government.

Yet these are the very people who go around preaching high moral values to the rakyat and schoolchildren.
