The road to Putrajaya not as easy as you think

The road to Putrajaya is not as easy as many would like to think. With the present government shooting itself in the foot many people are convinced that the reins of power are now ready to change hands. That kind of thinking is too presumptuous and may lead to a lot of disappointment.

When the last general election saw the government being wiped out in five states and with the loss of the two-thirds majority, one of the first things they put in place was the appointment of a former Umno legal advisor to be chief judge of the apex court.

It didn’t really matter that he created history by being catapulted three rungs to be a federal court judge without serving a single day in any of the lower courts.

The strategy was perfect. Power in Malaysia no longer emanates from the ballot box.

What you win at the ballot box can easily be taken away by the judiciary and what better person to do the dastardly deed than the former Umno legal head at the apex court.

As long as the Umno man remains firmly ensconced in the apex court, UMNO will forever remain formidable.

Perak was a good example. Winning at the ballot box was merely a temporary illusion because the government will use all its institutions to topple your legitimacy.

And finally when the matter reaches the court , the state constitution and federal constitution are not worth the paper they were written on. The court’s decision will only deliver their judgement on how and what the executives want them to be.

The court's decision will only deliver the judgement as decided by the executives.

As long as the apex court has an Umno man sitting there in the driver's seat, the road to Putrajaya will be paved with obstacles.

Winning at the ballot box will be an easy feat in the next election but how long can you hold on to the reins of power when the Judiciary will try to thwart every interpretation of the constitution, not based on law but on political expediency.
