I refer to the Allah word controversy and the recent attack on the Sentul Sikh Gurdwara recently.

It is very sad that such an attack on a Sikh Gurdwara has ever taken place in Malaysia where the population of Sikhs is no more that 100,000 people.

With such a small number of people which would probably be insignificant politically, the Sikh community has survived well in Malaysia without depending too much on government handouts.

The Sikhs has always remained loyal to Malaysia and have contributed significantly to its development.

On the ‘Allah’ term usage issue, I think it should be clarified to all that while there is sporadic usage of the term ‘Allah’ in the Holy Guru Granth Sahib Ji, it is just another term used to refer to God.

Due to the religious diversity in India, there are hundreds of names used in the Holy Granth Sahib which refers to God and the term ‘Allah’ is probably the least used.

It could be due to the influence of the Moghul rule in India and the inclusion of verses by a Sufi saint in the Holy Guru Granth Sahib Ji that this term ‘Allah’ was included as a term referring to God.

It is also clarified that the Sikhs have never used the term ‘Allah’ in any of their daily prayers and the correct word term is ‘Waheguru’.

Finally, while it is a duty of every Sikh to share the message of God with others, the Sikhs’ Guru has never condoned forceful religious conversions. Therefore, it is just right that the Sikhs are not dragged into this controversy.

It is also the duty of the government to protect all places of worship in Malaysia.
