I refer to Malaysiakini report Boar heads in mosques: ' Beware of provocateurs’ .

When the authorities took the ‘cow head incident’ rather lightly and were even seen to show some support and sympathy for that provocative, senseless and insensitive action, the immediate thought that came to mind was that those people had the blessings of someone or some groups with the required political clout to protect them.

Had it not been for the public outcry over that heinous behaviour, those responsible would not have been charged in court. Even that has been rather slow and lacked the urgency or importance for a highly-sensitive provocation with seemingly religious overtones.

What we are witnessing today is the fallout of that ‘cow head incident’. The lackadaisical action by the government may have led to a perception that certain groups of people with vested interests and subversive tendencies have the immunity to carry out their despicable acts to disturb the peace and harmony in the country.

The security, peace and harmonious living of the Malaysian community cannot be in any way compromised or even be used to gain political superiority and power. Anything that threatens these vital requirements for a progressive and tranquil way of life should be dealt with swiftly while imparting a strong message to the perpetrators of the severe consequences of their actions.

Today it is churches and mosques being attacked to pit one religious community against the other. Tomorrow it can happen on a larger scale if counteractions by those concerned for law and order are still slow and sloppy.

However, Malaysians have become wiser and more sagacious after the sad events of May 13, 1969 and also after seeing other such senseless happenings around the world.

It is said true friendship is put to the test when one is in trouble or needs support and help. The one who stands by you when you face some difficult times in your life is the true friend.

Today, Malaysian have stood up for each other and stand united to fight the undesirable elements of destruction and chaos, whoever or whatever they are. Thus we cannot deny the fact that today we are more united than before to face these challenges to our way of life.

The government has to set strong examples that Malaysians do not condone any disruption to their normal way of life, so enjoyed and valued for a nation of great hope.

We have to be constantly on the alert and work together to weed out these extremist forces within and those coming from outside. Our strength continues to lie in the unity of our diversity. United we stand, divided we fall.
