I refer to the Malaysiakini report PKR grassroots leaders slam Batu Uban rep .
Pakatan Rakyat has a lot of springcleaning to do. In its haste to recruit candidates for the last general election, it made the mistake of fielding alot of ex-Umno, ex-Gerakan, ex-MIC members.
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, many of these ex-BN members won as a state assembly person or member of Parliament under Pakatan Rakyat’s auspices.
These ex-BN members brought along their old baggage, thinking it was business as usual like what BN practices. They unleashed their venom when they found they could not get what they wanted.
Their criticism of the Penang DAP government was not about governance or transparency but it was all about their failed attempt to get what they wanted.
Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng, son of former Gerakan member, Tan Gim Hwa, lashed out at the Penang chief minister because - according to him - no allocation was given to PKR MPs.
However, it was then revealed that Lim did not accede to Tan’s request for the chairperson’s post of a state government-linked company and it was this that caused him to lash out at Lim Guan Eng.
Further, it was also revealed that all MPs including DAP MPs did not received any allocation. So it was really because of his vested interest that caused his open criticism of Lim Guan Eng - not because of party or the people's interest.
Like MP Tan Tee Beng, PKR's Bayan Baru MP Zahrain Hashim was an old ex-Umno stalwart. He left Umno and was elected as an MP under the PKR banner. Both Tan and Zahrain have one thing in common - both have their roots firmly planted in the BN ideology of the past.
Zahrain lashed out at Guan Eng ostensibly because he wouldn’t allow a multimillion ringgit resort to be managed by a two-ringgit company. His predecessor, Gerakan Boss, Koh Tsu Koon would have no hesitation in granting an Umno stalwart this contract but this was brushed off by Lim.
MPs like Tan and Zahrain joined PKR for their own vested interests and sadly, there are many in PKR's fold who share the same purpose and goals. They are in politics not to serve the rakyat but to serve their own selfish, vested interests.
Like Perak's Hee Yit Foong, these political opportunists will eventually be bought by the highest bidder. But let us not despair. Let all these rotten apples leave.
It doesn’t really matter because this temporary setback will only rejuvenate Pakatan Rakyat to select better and more ethical candidates for the next general election.
PKR's leadership should not spare the rod. Better for these selfish members to leave now rather than poison the core of PKRs membership.
