Chua Soi Lek must become like Deng Xiao Peng

It is hoped that this letter will reach the MCA delegates who will be casting their votes for the do-or-die party polls soon that will decide the fate of the MCA. The delegates should realise that the Chinese are no longer interested in the goings-on in MCA and many are confused by the infighting among leaders who profess to belong to this group or that group.

Even the groupings are not permanent with some characters jumping from one to another. The bloggers, too, have recently ignored the political developments within MCA. I dare not say that I can advise these ‘master politicians’ on what to do but would like to suggest the following:

Ong Ka Ting, you once retired from active politics so please stay away from the fray. It will only make matters worse and divide the Chinese further by splitting votes which will cause renewed bickering after the polls.

I have no hard feelings for Ong Ka Ting and don't even know him but I do recall reading his slogan for the 2008 general elections which went something like this: ‘While others are making a lot of noise, we work quietly for the people.’ That slogan didn't work for the rakyat especially the Chinese.

Ong Tee Keat should repent for the ‘cruelty’ he meted out to his deputy Chua Soi Lek by not nominating Chua as a member of the cabinet while lesser office-bearers like vice-presidents were made ministers and deputy ministers. This was a wrong move by Ong Tee Keat and a most unkind cut of all.

Ong Tee Keat should quickly make peace and make up with Chua Soi Lek. But if both are stubborn, and nothing less than the president's chair is what each wants, both will lose to Ong Ka Ting through the split votes of their supporters.

Ong Tee Keat must respect Chua for what he is and for his age. That is Confucius' teaching to the Chinese. When Chua Soi Lek is president, I hope he will assume a role like the great Deng Xiao Peng who literally wielded all the power within the Communist Party of China from behind while Zhao Zhiyang and later Zhang Zemin ruled the country as president.

Deng set the pace for smooth transitions up till today with Hu Jintao as president and China among the top three economic and military superpowers. This means Chua Soi Lek will not change MCA's representatives in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's cabinet while he himself, like Deng Xiao Peng, will monitor the performance of MCA's ministers and deputy ministers in the cabinet. He will have the power - through the MCA presidential council - to remove MCA's cabinet members and advise the prime minister to act accordingly.

It is the fervent hope of the Chinese community and that of all right-thinking Malaysians that Ong Tee Keat will remain as transport minister whose main job it is to ensure that we will finally be accorded the right picture of the scandalous Port Klang Free Zone project through which billions of people's money have gone.

As for the other key figures of MCA such as Ng Yen Yen, Liow Tiong Lai etc, they will fall into their respective correct patterns once Ong Tee Keat and Chua Soi Lek have made up their minds.
