I refer to the Malaysiakini report Apco contract cost RM77 mil a year .

The latest discovery of the Apco relationship with the Najib administration raises cause for concern.

I should first of all congratulate Anwar Ibrahim and Tian Chua for exposing this saga in Parliament. Had it not been their diligent work of check-and-balance, the people would not have realised who was behind the ‘1Malaysia’ concept.

Apart from the alleged link between Apco Worldwide and former Israeli Intelligence officers, the amount spent by the BN government for a one-year contract is beyond anyone's imagination. What, with RM77 million of public funds spent by Najib Abdul Razak, has Apco achieved for the people?

To me, before the slogan ‘1Malaysia’ was talked about, the Malaysian spirit which had existed up to the time of Hussein Onn had a greater impact on the unity of all Malaysians. It doesn't take a foreign company like Apco to tell us that we must be ‘1Malaysia’.

The money could have been better spent elsewhere to help the poor people in our communities. This would have made a greater impact on the people of this country instead of lavishing it on some nonsensical slogans.

The Malaysian spirit which brought this country to its independence under the revered Tunku Abdul Rahman, Bapa Malaysia could be revived if the government can do its part to shut up the mouths of some loudmouthed racists in this country - in the likes of Ahmad Ismail, Ibrahim Ali and Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Mahathir should realise that a person's race cannot be changed at one's whims and fancies. No matter how he tries, he cannot shed his identity as an Indian-Muslim whose roots can be traced back to Kerala, India. Most Indian-Muslim friends of mine are respectable and they uphold their identity with dignity.

There is, therefore, no reason for the ‘Malaysian Maverick’ to not be proud of his own race like his late sister who retained the family name ‘Kutty’.

And there is no reason for Najib to spend RM77 million on an Apco public relations campaign while allowing people within his political party to continue to play up racial sentiments. We, the rakyat of this country, have to say ‘enough is enough’.
