BN's Hulu S'gor candidate - public has been fooled

Umno and MIC were at their best act in this candidate selection. G Palanivel had been made the sacrifice lamb in the whole process. It was already a foregone conclusion that P Kamalanathan had been picked even before all the melodrama that we observed over the last few days.

This is how my conspiracy theory goes. S Samy Vellu needed to get rid of Palanivel to make inroads within the Indian Malaysian community. Samy has enough baggage; even the very mention of his name spurs hatred from the Indians. Palanivel is a simpleton, not some highflying manouvering politican like Samy Vellu.

Palanivel had served his purpose for Samy, so Samy now needs to get rid of him as his (Palanivel’s) popularity had increased as Samy’s had decreased. This after Hindraf had highlighted the plight of the Indians under him. If Palanivel won, it would have strengthened Palani’s position and this would have endangered Samy’s ambition to hand over the throne to his chosen ones.

Kamalanathan is a relative of Samy whom he can control, so Samy makes a pact with Umno to ensure his hold on the party and that his supporters are not affected. In this way, he would look good for the public as he can point out to the Indian voters that he had no choice but to abide by Umno’s decision. Samy is thick-skinned; you need to be that to be a politician.

So he does not care about the hue and cry of the general public but is only concerned how to playact it out to his audience ie, the Indian Malaysians. The pointers were already there but it is just that nobody actually picked up on them.

On April 3, journalist K Baradan wrote a piece Palanivel’s biggest foe in Hulu Selangor may be Samy Vellu . Then on the same day, see how Kamalanathan had been lobbied here and here .

We the public as usual, get all excited but fail to actually understand when the writing is on the wall. Umno and MIC know exactly what they are doing to maintain their hegemony and it us, the public, who accept ti without much analysis.

The whole time, the public has been taken on a merry-go-round and even the opposition are unable to smell a plot in this whole affair. This was all pre-planned from Day One.

Oh yes, this V Mugilan character and the support he received from Umno in Hulu Selangor and of course Khairy Jamaluddin was part of the game plan to shore up the sentiments of the public.

I really don’t think Umno is too worried whether Kamalanathan wins or not as as they are able to ensure their control over the country by controlling their segment of blind supporters.

The hate factor, at least amongst the Indian Malaysian community, is centred on Samy Vellu. BN needed to engineer a way out to persuade the Hulu Selangor voters to vote for BN. Samy played his role assisted by Umno to hoodwink the public and get the result they want without bringing in Samy into the picture.

But when you dig deep enough, you would understand how politically savvy these guys are. People, this is a typical ‘good cop, bad cop’ scenario.

I hope Pakatan Rakyat will exploit this as the central theme is Samy and anything and everything to do with Samy is a taboo for the Indian Malaysian society bearing in mind their current marginalised and discriminated state.

You want to know how savvy Samy is? How do you think he kicked S Subramaniam out? His nemesis was a favourite of then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and replaced it with Dr S. Subramaniam the current human resources minister? That is a story for another time.
